Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

From R37 900, start and end in Upington, Northern Cape Province.

A desert country wildlife adventure like no other, in the very special Kgalagadi Transfronteir Park. This is one of the best places to photograph Lion and Cheetah in southern Africa. This safari is for the seasoned adventure naturalist and lover of truly wild places. We have genuine experience working in this part of the world, dating back to 2020. The Kgalagadi is remote and our overland safaris are rustic requiring a "do it ourselves" spirit. The  diversity of birds of prey is impressive and the sightings which you will experience here, are unlike anything else in Africa. Trip length can be customised to suit your needs. We reccomend a minimum of four nights here.

Cost:

Based on per person sharing, for groups of one to three persons. We prefer to travel with three persons in a vehicle on this tour. Groups larger than three persons will be quoted on enquiry.

Seven nights/eight days.

Key wildlife: African Lion, Cheetah, Southern Oryx (Gemsbok), Leopard, Spotted Hyaena, Brown Hyaena, Honey Badger, Black-backed Jackal, Cape Fox, Bat-eared Fox, Springbuck and diverse birds of prey.

Weather: The summers (November to March) are hot upwards of 35°C. Winters (May to August) are 18°C - 30°C during the day and cold at night, dropping below zero. There is no malaria in this region.

Group size: preferably 1 to 3, but larger groups will be accomddated and quoted.

Departure and finishing point: preferably Upington, South Africa.

Accommodation: We stay in comfortable national park managed accommodation with electricity, shared ablutions and air conditioning or fans.  There are twin-share or family-style units. Camping can also be arranged.

Vehicle: 4x4 double cab or minibus.

Meals: This trip is self-catered with basic breakfasts, dinners and light lunches included in the price. There is a restaurant at Twee Rivieren (Two Rivers) main camp which we will utilise for dinners if staying at this camp. Meals are prepared togeather at the end of the day over fire at our chalets and take time to prepare. We would like to establish a meal plan with you prior to your trip. 

Typical day: 

Breakfast: 05:00- 06:00. Coffee, tea, rusks, toast, spreads, cereals, fruit.

Morning wildlife viewing: 06:00 -10:00 (can vary according to season and weather).

Down time: 10:00 – 12:00. Stretch your legs in the safety of the camp. Watch birds and resident small mammals like the yellow mongooses and ground squirrels. Take a swim in the pool, download images and read your field guides.

Lunch: 12:00 - 13:00. Coffee, juice, beer, sandwiches, cold meats, salads.

On at least two of the days, when we are transferring between rest camps. We will have brunch cooked on the fire out in the bush, at one of the day use sites. There are no fences and you get to sit back and enjoy a drink while breathing in the Kgalagadi and might just have a lion walk by !

Afternoon wildlife viewing: 14:00 -18:00. Varies according to season and weather.

Dinner: 18:30 - 20:00. 

Included: Accomodation, vehicle, specialist nature guide, continental-style breakfast, lunch, dinner, bottled water, conservation fees.

Not included: Domestic flights. Your guide will meet you on arrival in Upington and will drop you off again at the end of your tour.
