Knysna Turaco on the Garden Route of South Africa
Summary:
Starting in Cape Town or the regional town of George, we explore some of South Africa's most pristine coastline. Our adventure will take us to De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area where we search for endemic mammals such as Cape Mountain Zebra and Bontebok, Grey Rhebok, Cape Eland and possibility see a wiley Caracal. Special birds include the localised endemic Agulhas Long-billed Lark, Cape Vulture, Blue Crane and Denham’s Bustard to name a few. A visit to this wonderful area yields magnificent sightings of Southern Right Whales nursing their calves in the shallow coastal waters during late winter to Spring..
The lush Garden Route offers a wide diversity of temperate zone forest species such as Chorister Robin Chat, White-starred Robin, the exquisite Knysna Touraco, Cape Batis, Olive and highly sought-after Knysna Woodpecker and Olive Bush-shrike. The remnant forest patches are the home of ancient Yellow-wood, Stinkwood and Ironwood Trees and strolling the forest trails with binoculars in hand is a satisfying experience.
We utilise comfortable guesthouses and rest camps within the reserves which is subject to availability apon booking.
